The Berlin Senate has decided extensive measures to prepare to treat COVID-19 patients – and has taken a leaf out of Vienna's book: A provisional hospital with up to 1000 beds will be set up on the exhibition site under the Funkturm (radio tower). The facility in one of the exhibition halls is intended to complement Berlin's existing hospital capacity and help avoid bottlenecks, says Dilek Kalayci, Senator for Heath, Care and Equality in the Berlin Senate. The project director is the former president of the civil protection volunteer force Technisches Hilfswerk and long-serving Berlin fire service chief, Albrecht Broemme. The authorities in Berlin are expecting increasing numbers of cases. The greatest number of patients will presumably arise in the coming months, depending on how the Sars-CoV-2 pandemic progresses in Germany.
