While an appraisal of fiscal year 2019 for Messe Düsseldorf was tasked to its chairman and CEO, Werner M. Dornscheidt, he left the outlook for the future to his successor Wolfram N. Diener. With a flurry of fairs starting in August 2019 (Caravan Salon, K, A+A) which will continue until June 2020, the departing exhibition boss boasted marked increases in sales and profits in an exhibition year packed with events, and for 2020 announced an unprecedented level due to the trade fair cycle. Subject to the final balance calculation, the figures are as follows: The Messe Düsseldorf Group generated revenue of around EUR 369 million in 2019 (previous year: EUR 294 million), Messe Düsseldorf recorded a revenue of EUR 338 million (previous year: EUR 260.4 million). The net income of the GmbH, which largely covers business in Germany, increased to EUR 49 million (2018: EUR 15.3 million). This results in an operating margin of 14.4 percent (previous year: 5.9 percent). The group generated around EUR 67 million abroad. Of that, EUR 33 million came from Russia, EUR 14 million from China and EUR ten million from Singapore. "Prospects for the current fiscal year are more than encouraging", the CEO said. In 2020, the profit of the GmbH will again increase substantially: Forecasts put the net income at EUR 82.2 million and sales are set to increase to EUR 474 million. Exhibition cycles mean that things will not quieten down again until 2021.
